How is the Gan-Zhi (sexagenary) year calculated?
The 10 Heavenly Stems and 12 Earthly Branches combine into a 60-year cycle, anchored so that 4 AD is the Jiǎ-Zǐ (甲子) year. The zodiac animal follows the Earthly Branch.
How do Minguo and Wareki years relate to the Gregorian year?
Minguo year 1 is 1912 (AD = Minguo + 1911). Wareki uses the reign era: for example Reiwa 1 is 2019 and Shōwa 1 is 1926.
Does it handle mid-year era changes?
No. Conversions are computed per calendar year for simplicity, so a year in which the era changed mid-year is mapped to a single era. For legal documents, verify the exact accession date.
